The last few postcards my Grandad bought back from Egypt when he served in World War 2 in North Africa. These would have been purchased between 1941 & 1943.
From the back of the postcard “The Three Pyramids of Giza, which are among the oldest monuments of mankind. From right to left: The Great Pyramid build by Kheops 2900BC. The second pyramid, built by Khephren 2869BC. The third pyramid built by Mankaura 2774BC.”
From the back of the postcard “Tombs of the Caliphs, the burial places of the Circassian Mamelukes, who ruled Egypt from 1382-1517.”
From the back of the postcard “Tombs of the Mamelukes, the burial places of hte Baharite Mamelukes who ruled Egypt from 1250-1380, the Mosque of Mohammed Ali is in the background”
Mosque of Qait Bey (built in 1474)
This postcard of Qait Bey didn’t seem to fit the other sets but it seemed a shame to leave it out. 🙂
