Wednesday April 9th 1941

4th Day

Sea getting much calmer and sun coming out brightly.  First mail was collected today.  Did 2 relief guards.  The convoy changed formation.  Breeze getting much warmer.  Put clock back another hour.

Thursday April 10th

5th Day

Sighted 5 minesweepers about 7.30am.

Hard to pick up.  Very hazy.  Sighted Sydney Heads about 9 o’clock.  Thrilling sight.  Took about 2 hours to go up the Harbour.  Did not berth.   Nieuw Amsterdam went along side to pick up stores.  Queen Elizabeth laying in stream with Aust. Troops on board.  Queen Mary left night before.  Had a grand view of  Bridge.  Wonderful harbour.  Hundreds of small craft came out to see us.  Sydney looks like a mass of skyscrapers.  Dozens of ferries crisscrossing the harbour.  Gov General came about to see us.
