In my Grandfather’s War Diary entry from Friday August 21 1942, he visits Jerusalem & Bethlehem. He said “… saw Wailing Wall then to Jerusalem and went through the million dollar American YMCA – beautiful building and grounds.”
He most likely took (or purchased) these photos on this visit that day.

Did you know that the architect who designed the YMCA building in Jerusalem also designed the Empire State Building in NY?
Ah, no, I didn’t – an interesting bit of trivia,
I have some of the exact same photos in my collection of photos taken by my Grandad when he was stationed there at exactly the same time. They must have bought them as the photos are identical but my Grandad also had a lot more that he must have taken himself as they show him and other soldiers. I’m wondering if maybe your Grandad knew mine and may even be on some of the photos. His name was Douglas Sutton.
