In Yangon is one of the largest reclining Buddha’s in the world. It measures 16m high (approximately 6 stories) and 65m long.
The Buddha is beautiful, with a white porcelain face and blue eyeshadow. Particularly lovely, in my opinion, are the pink fingernails and toenails with their gold edges. The eyes made from imported Japanese glass are startlingly real looking.
The Pagoda is open daily from 6 am until 8 pm. Entrance fee is US$ 5 per person.
Outside the building are stalls with flowers in order to make an offering while you are there.
I can’t get over how much Gold there is and how so much has survived the ravaged of colonialism and everything from WWii to the present.
And we saw a lot of people buying gold leaf as offerings at the pagodas to stick onto the Buddha images. Myanmar is very resource rich.
