20 minutes from bustling Queenstown is the small historic town of Arrowtown. Where Queenstown is high energy, Arrowtown is quaint and laidback. Its a gold rush village which is similar to the likes of Skagway in Alaska, albeit smaller.
The town is full of shops, boutiques and cafes. There is plenty of free parking along the river, and then you can just explore on foot, as its easily walkable.
There is an old gaol (jail) building which you can request the key for from the museum – or you can just do what we did and peak through the door.
There is a museum which was closed when we visited due to us being there after work.
When you are done exploring the town, there are a number of nature trails and walks available which are clearly signposted.

Arrowtown is incredibly beautiful!!
It really is, such a pretty setting.
that village is charming clean quiet I LIKED it
Most of New Zealand is like that 🙂
Looks like such a quaint and beautiful place!
I love it! One of my favourite spots in New Zealand.
Based upon the photographs you have posted, I would say that Arrowtown is a far more inviting place than Skagway.
Certainly a lot less touristy! But a lot smaller too.
If everything goes as plan, in two years, we should be able to visit NZ. It looks like a wonderful country with great scenery and wilderness.
You are just going to love it! Its a fantastic country to visit 🙂
