Earlier this year Disney California Adventure Park re-imagined the old Condor Flats area into the new Grizzly Peak Airfield. I was looking back through my old photos of Disneyland to show you before and after and couldn’t find any of this area. It used to be very grey and concrete with very few photographically interesting areas.
The new Grizzly Peak Airfield theme is far more appealing to the eye. The old grey buildings have been repainted green and pine trees have been planted. This brings the theme of Grizzly Peak around to this area and seems to be very much like the recent Planes movie so ties in with Cars Land nicely.
The counter service Taste Pilots’ Grill has been renamed Smoke Jumpers Grill and the old store is now Humphrey’s Service & Supplies.
It’s the little things that I love, and the one thing that immediately jumped out at me was the Soarin’ sign. Why? Because the “Over California” bit was on loop and hooks. This lead me to believe the rumour that they would switch out the movie in future. Sure enough, at the D23 expo it was announced that Soarin’ Around the World would be coming in 2016. I remember this well!
I love California Adventure, it started out as a park we didn’t spend much time in but over the last few years we are spending more and more time there each visit.
Soarin’ was my absolute favorite ride at Disney World in Florida when we went in 2012. Soarin’ Around the World would be fantastic! I want to go back so badly now.
P.S. Love the photos!
I love Soarin’ too – I can’t wait to see the new version!
