Day 794

Rather a lot of excitement concerning Sister’s Compound guard – still losing watches but Wogs still too shrewd.  Walked to canal.  Really beautiful day – water lovely & calm very little current.  Several Sub. chasers passed on way to Port Said.  Many rumours concerning 9th reinforcement but nothing official.  In evening strolled along Sweet Water Canal then to Church Army Hut.

Extremely dull day – did not bother about swimming so slept during afternoon then read.  Evening played Housie without success.

  1. The word you missed for Sunday was ‘duty’ and if you look at the ‘d’ I think it is his capital d and then if you go back to Wed the word after sub. is (I think) Dhows which are those Egyptian boats with the one huge sail. I think????

  2. Day 794 — “Several Sub. ??? passed on way to Port Said. I believe this to read “Several Sub. chasers passed on way to Port Said”.

Day 797 — “??? & ??? surrendered today.” These are most likely towns in Libya or Tunisia. Given the date, 12 June 1943, A Google search using that date will most likely turn up their names.

Still a good read and still interesting.
