After only nearly 3 years, the Luigi’s Flying Tires attraction in Cars Land at Disney California Adventure Theme Park has already been scheduled for replacement and will close on the 16th of this month. Rumour has it that injuries, and possibly technical difficulties, have forced a replacement attraction already. History repeating itself? It was based on an old Flying Saucers attraction at Disneyland that didn’t last long either.
I’m glad I got a chance to ride it, and I’m sorry to see it go after such a short time. Although not an earth shattering attraction, my nephews enjoyed it and we got a kick out of riding it as a family. The “hover-craft” type movement crossed with the “bumper cars”, was a favourite with my nephews, but the vehicles were difficult to manoeuver and it was very slow to load.
A new attraction is scheduled for 2016 and its rumoured to be a trackless ride system similar to Pooh in Tokyo or Mystic Manor in Hong Kong. The vehicles will become ride in cars and it will be another spinning musical number. Same as Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree, except different? 😉
So we look forward to what comes in 2016, and hope that it stands the test of time as we retire (pun intended) Luigi’s into the Disney lost but not forgotten, attractions.
The saucers themselves were large inflatible type tires which you had to be sure to step over into the seats. I wonder if this is part of the issue as its a pretty big step up/down and you could easily loose your footing or step onto the tire and damage it.
Some of the decoration in the queue line, which will likely remain if rumours are true.
