Wednesday January 13
Fatigue in morning lasting one hour. Had trip to Netanya in afternoon – small modern township about 12 miles distance. Saw through Diamond Cutting Factory. Very interesting & delicate work done – only small diamonds cut here – majority of work done by girls working machine similar to small lathes. Saw the three processes – cutting, rounding face them polishing surface. Returned to camp at 4pm. Pictures at night “This Thing Called Love”.

Received mail – several letters. Still showery. Shifted gear to another hut. Massage & heat during afternoon. Pictures at night “Dr. Ehrlich’s Magic Bullet”.
Friday January 15
Still doing small fatigue. Met G Shaw. Housie followed by pictures at night. Wrote letters in afternoon.
Saturday January 16
Medical Inspection – graded B.2. Wrote during afternoon then pictures. Still raining heavily – this is no place for Con. Depot during winter.
Sunday January 17
Finished fatigues at nine then commenced to write home & to Marg (his girlfriend who he married after the war – my grandmother). Clear in morning but humid late afternoon. Pictures “Fast & Loose”.
Monday January 18

Received letter from Jim (presumably Marg’s brother – Jim Wootton who would become his brother-in-law) sent from Maadi (Maadi was the base for the New Zealanders in Egypt in WW2). Hoping to see him as I pass through base. Received parcel from ???. Applied for trip to Co-operative Farm on Wednesday. Housie & pictures at night.
