Day 657. He went for a walk through a Jewish or Zionist kibbutz, collective community, that would have served as a defensive unit in the days before the establishment of Israel. If you can locate his camp on a map, you should be also be able to locate this kibbutz which was nearby.
I am curious about the movies he is seeing. How current are they?
Most of the movies I tend to caption on the posters with the date if can find it. Usually they are 2-3 years old.
I’ll see if I can find a map. Thanks 🙂

Most of the films they were shown were only a couple of years old. Have you kept a running tally of how many he’s seen.
No but it seems like a heck of a lot!
Have you ever read Alan Moorehead’s The Desert War? I you havent, you might find it informative.
No, but I have reading the 23rd battalion official history by Angus Ross which is free to read online (not sure if this works out of NZ) http://nzetc.victoria.ac.nz/tm/scholarly/tei-WH2-23Ba.html
I’m reading this one along side the diary entries which is an interesting perspective.
and I found Our War by Martyn Thompson very interesting too as it was personal recollections of NZ servicemen (and a few women) in the North Africa campaign.
Moorehead should be available in a cheap, used condition. I read it a long time ago. He was a war correspondent, and I think you will enjoy the perspective.
Thanks, I will see if I can track down a copy
