Long story short, a trip to the vet during our usual meal time was a good excuse to get takeaways this week. We had a loyalty card to redeem a free curry at Sai Touch of Spice at Coach Corner, so that sealed the deal. Their menu is here.
We got Aloo Gobi and Vegetable Khadai. We also ordered a Naan but they were generous and gave us two. With rice… Heaps for 2 people and less than $17 (as one curry was essentially free).
Have to say we aren’t convinced about this place. It used to be better but has been inconsistent more recently. This particular meal was ok but I wouldn’t rush back.
The Naan was tough and the Aloo Gobi was very oily. Neither the Aloo Gobi or the Vegetable Khadai was creamy which is ok by me, but the Aloo Gobi particularly was swimming in ghee. Flavour was ok, not too spicy or bland but nothing “wow”.
Would we come back here again? I wouldn’t rule it out but it won’t be anytime soon
Would we order the same dishes again? Possibly, they were ok but only just…
Would we try something else? Yes, perhaps we didn’t pick their “best” dishes but we have some other Indian restaurants we visit where you just can’t go wrong with what you order.
Would we recommend Sai Touch of Spice? No – go to Indian Fendalton or Green Leaf in Bishopdale. Even the downstairs Foodcourt at Riccarton Mall…
Is it better than Welcome Vegetarian Cafe (our baseline restaurant)? Not by a long shot.
“swimming in ghee”? Oh my goodness…
Or oil or butter or something like that… not flash.
You fortunate to have such interesting food possibilities.
Yes lots of interesting choices and it makes for interesting dining 🙂
