Day 689

Usual training during morning.  Outgoing draft last posted up – am returning to Maadi tomorrow.  Spent afternoon packing & getting ready etc.  Pictures at night.

Wednesday Feb 24

Day 690

Left camp at 8AM for Hadera Station.  As usual train delayed terribly – first until eleven then until four that afternoon.  In morning had tea sent to us & then returned to camp for lunch.  Able to get good seats on train as fairly empty.  Received meal at Gaza then slept until Kantara.

Thursday Feb 25

Day 691

Crossed canal by new swing bridge saving much time.  Reached Cairo Station at 2PM then brought to base reception.  Put into HQ company.  At night enquired at A.S.C. (Army Service Corps)  Orderly Room about Jim* – out on manoeuvres and is in No.2 Amm(?) Company.  Pall Mall Theatre at night “Charlie Chan at Treasure Island”.

Jim Wootton was his girlfriend Marg’s brother and after the war would become his brother-in-law when he married Marg (my grandmother)

Friday Feb 26

Day 692

Had medical inspection then interviewed (by) Employment officer.   Only parades we have are the check ones.  Dropped Jim a note and after visited his tent mates.  Pictures at night at Shafto’s “The Spellbinder”, rather good.

Saturday Feb 27

Day 693

Drew what gear I needed and was put on fatigue at Sarg. Mess.  At night played housie.
