… Journeyed to promenade going westward to docks & Farouk’s Palace – gigantic place – bigger than that in Cairo. Wonderful sheltered harbour – many ships berthed. Returned past Nabi Danial Mosque believed to be burial palace of Alexander the Great. At night went to cabaret then afterwards to pictures “Billy The Kid” & “Lady Be Good”
Saturday May 1
Day 755
During morning boarded several trams having a good look at suburbs of Alex. Afternoon just strolled around city going to dance at services club in evening then finishing at the cinema “Between Us Girls”.

Sunday May 2
Day 756
Today spent most of time at Stanley Bay – rather large crowd there during morning but during afternoon disappeared going to Race Meeting. At night attended one of the promenade cabaret’s but very few there so did not stay long returning to dance at Jewish Club.
Monday May 3
Day 757
During morning did some shopping buying presents to send home. In afternoon walked around to dock area but could not get very close as they need passes. At night went to concert in Globe Theatre “Bright Smiles” – rather good.

There were quite a few in those countries back then.
It is sad how intolerance seemingly has grown throughout the world as the West has striven toward multiculturalism and tolerance.
I think it has always been there – we just try to hide it better now
He visits it a number of times. He wasn’t Jewish but I suppose it was for entertainment rather than reasons of faith 🙂
