Monday May 24

Day 778

Still on Sisters Compound.  Many rumours circulating concerning 1st, 2nd & 3rd Echelon returning home.  All leave cancelled to Cairo – believe Div will even be at Maadi.  Began usual weekly letters at night.

Tuesday May 25

Day 779

Guard at Sisters quarters then swim at Canal then more guard.  Received parcel from Mima, (his sistertin of short-bread & biscuits – very nice. Continued letters in evening.

Day 780

Releaving guard today – only doing duty for 1/2 hour at midday then 2 hours in evening.  Another parcel – sent through Thomas A  Cook – believe from Marg (his girlfriend) – very nice package.  In evening Naafi Cinema unit at Hospital showing pictures “Ride ‘Em Cowboy” – Dick Foran – Better than name would suggest.

Thursday May 27

Day 781

Duty early morning – then did washing.  Unit parade in afternoon – Col. saying all 1,2 & 3 Ech. boys returning home – married men first then followed by single – boys who it concerns terribly excited – wish I was among them – but maybe my turn will be later.  No swim today.  In evening listened to a Violin Recital given by Tommy Officer from Ismailia – all classical music – but exceptionally good.
