Mum bought some slides back from New Zealand.  Over the last week I have converted them to digital format.  So for the first time, after 35 years we can actually now see these photos. This is the second set which feature the 25th Anniversary parade.  Please forgive the somewhat blurry photos – we are spoilt nowadays … Continue reading

The cost of an Organised Tour vs Independent Travel (Vietnam)

We decided to book a trip from Easter through 1 May to take in the public holidays here in Australia.  Success – leave approved from 14th April to 1 May inclusive! Where to then?  Robert’s had a hankering for Vietnam and I thought, why not?!  Its cheap and the food is great.  Its well geared … Continue reading

Visiting Hoi An (part 1)

When we did our Royal Carribean cruise back in July, for the second cruise we had two stops in Vietnam. One of these was Hoi An which is situated on Vietnam’s central coast.  Mum and I had previously visited Vietnam back in 2004 and Hoi An was one of our favourite stops.  Not so much for … Continue reading

I hated the Tate Modern… visiting QAGOMA

Visiting the Tate Modern in London was the most boring 15 minutes of my life.  Ok, so maybe I was there a little longer than that, but I found nothing there that appealed to me in any sense whatsoever.  But I confess, I have never been a fan of art galleries anyway. Museums I love.  I … Continue reading

Zombie Mannequins at Beenleigh Historic Village

A couple of weekends back Mum and I visited the Beenleigh Historic Village which is a small collection of old buildings from the area that have been collated into a village like environment. We arrived near opening and found a park on the street, and there were also plenty of spaces available in the carpark. … Continue reading

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary

A couple of weeks ago we snagged a “locals deal” on discount website Groupon for Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.  The park is located on the southern part of the Gold Coast, about 1h 15m hours drive from central Brisbane and around 30 minutes from Surfers Paradise. We arrived early since the forecast was for 31C and … Continue reading

Really? You don’t say!

In case you can’t read the sign (as I realise the text is a little wibbly) – it says “STAIRS UNDER REPAIR, PLEASE USE RAMP”. Now why didn’t I think of that? (Photo taken at Beenleigh Historic Village a couple of weeks ago).

Royal Caribbean – Hong Kong to Vietnam – Cruise Compass – day 3

Day 3 was in Nha Trang, we did an organised bus half day excursion.  Due to most passengers going ashore, there wasn’t much planned for on the ship for entertainment compared with the previous sea day. Royal Caribbean – Hong Kong to Vietnam – Cruise Compass – day 2

Day 2 was a sea day so there were plenty of activities planned.  I’m pretty sure we spent most of the day on the balcony enjoying the downtime with the occassional meal break – hey, we were on a cruise!  😉   If you missed the Cruise Compasses for the Taiwan cruise, they are here … Continue reading

Royal Caribbean – Hong Kong to Vietnam – Cruise Compass – day 1

Once we got off our 5 day cruise to Taiwan, we immediately got back onboard for a 5 night cruise to Vietnam.  When I say “got back onboard” which isn’t technically correct, Mum never even got off the ship.  Back-to-back cruisers simply go to guest services for new keycards if changing staterooms. We vacated our … Continue reading
