Day 746

In afternoon get paid – collecting pass & rail warrant.  Packed all gear in readiness and played housie at night.

Thursday April 22

Day 747

Arose at 6AM.  Left hospital by truck at 8.30AM.  Travelling to El Ballah Station catching 9AM Port Said Train.  Arrived at Cairo at 2PM looking in at NZ Club.  Met Jesse Owens and later went to “Desert Victory” at Metropole – had meal at Club and again went to pictures this time at the Opera House seeing “You’re Lovelier than Ever” (You Were Never Lovelier).  Looked in at cabaret for about one hour then returned to Club.

Friday April 23

Day 748

Watched around town in morning. Saw changing of Guard at Palace at 11 o’clock – wogs put on quite a good turn.

Watched for Jim (Wootton) in Club until 3 o’clock – but when he didn’t come went to pictures seeing “Honky Tonk” – Clark Gable – Lana Turner.  For evening walked to YM. but could not see anyone I knew so off to last session at Studio ??? and saw “Once Upon a Honeymoon”.

Saturday April 24

Day 749

Morning strolled through Cairo.  While waiting for Jim in afternoon met Jack & Fred Hobbs.  Met Jim over after four – he just received letter that same morning…
