… Evening visited cabaret on promenade out towards El Bala(?).
Wednesday April 28
Visited Stanley Bay in morning – nearly four miles out, beautiful little bay about size of Corsair but simply lined with bathing sheds. Stayed there being in sun until about 3PM then returned and pictures at night. “Road to Singapore”.
Thursday April 29
During morning walked along promenade towards docks & Ras el-Tin Palace – always a lovely cool breeze blowing. Afternoon again visited Stanley Bay for swim & sunbathe. At night attended dance at Jewish Club, quite enjoyed myself but as usual about 10 men to each girl. After dance pictures last session “Johnny Eagar” – Robert Taylor.
Friday April 30
This morning visited Racecourse & sports ground out towards El Gaber (possibly Sidi Gaber?) afternoon on motor tour – visiting Pompey’s Pillar – of red granite stone from Aswan, 84ft high, 7ft diameter weighing 240 tons. Believed to be built about 287AD although parts of foundation have been old monuments of BC period. Continued on to catacombs – consisting of shafts in ground divided in compartments where mummies were stored. Then onto Zoo & Gardens – rather nice but cannot be compared with those of Cairo.
